Rape, Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment

Burke PLLC lawyers are dedicated to ensuring that victims of  rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment obtain justice.

Beginning in February 2011, Burke PLLC began a long-term project focused on eradicating retailation against active duty soldiers and officers who are raped or assaulted while serving our nation.  On behalf of Kori Cioca and 27 other rape survivors, we filed a lawsuit in Virginia federal court seeking redress.

The lawsuit alleges former secretaries of defense Rumsfeld and Gates violated the plaintiffs’ constitutional rights by failing to provide any access to justice.  This lawsuit and the military’s failures to adjudicate the crime of rape is the focus of a compelling documentary called “The Invisible War.”

If you were raped or sexually assaulted while on active duty in 2002 or later, you may be able to join the ongoing efforts.  Please contact our paralegal Miranda Petersen at mpetersen@burkepllc.com for more information.

Burke PLLC also handles employment actions involving sexual harassment.  If you believe you have been harassed as a result of your gender, and you are interested in learning whether legal remedies are available, please contact Susan L. Burke at 202.386.9622 or sburke@burkepllc.com.
