Burke PLLC obtained ten million dollars from an American company called AES to remedy environmental harms in the Dominican Republic. Burke PLLC represented the government of the Dominican Republic, which had been harmed when AES subcontractors dumped tons of coal ash on two pristine Dominican beaches.
On behalf of the government of the Dominican Republic, Burke PLLC brought the action in the Eastern District of Virginia, known as the “rocket docket.” The firm obtained favorable rulings from the Court, warding off AES’ efforts to transfer and dismiss the lawsuit. Thereafter, AES paid ten million dollars in settlement. The funds were used to restore the Dominican beaches to their natural state.
